The Partner Dashboard That Actually Gets Used
Most KPI dashboards inside law firms gather dust. Here's what the few that survive past month two have in common.
Every legal-tech vendor ships a 'partner dashboard'. Most of them get opened twice in the first week, then never again. The reason is almost always the same — the dashboard answers questions the partner wasn't asking.
What partners actually want to know
- How many of my hearings this week am I personally appearing at?
- Which matters haven't moved in 30 days?
- Which clients have unpaid invoices older than 60 days?
- Are my associates handling the cause list, or am I doing it again?
Each of these is a single question with a single answer. The platforms that succeed in being used daily are the ones that surface answers to those four questions on the home screen — without the partner having to drill into anything.
Vanity metrics — 'total matters this year', 'revenue YTD' — get a separate page. They're useful at quarter-end, not at 09:00 on Monday.
